MASTER COURSE URBAN LAB | Urban Design Theory, Research and Practice
In the Urban Lab we explore the complex manner in which various themes are embedded in the everyday practice of urban design. Significant questions of urban design theory and practice are examined at the interface between architecture and planning.
The course is structured in two phases. In phase 1, we conduct case studies on exemplary master plans, urban design projects and typologies. In phase 2, each student reads a major theory book on urbanism, critically reflect its impact on urban design and architecture, and writes a short essay of the main findings. A lecture series and the literature and case studies provides a broad perspective on urbanism, and inform our discussions and work in the lab.
